Scott Beal is NZ’s Short Story Workshop advisor. An author, Scott’s writing has recently been featured in the Indiana Review, Dunes Review and at PoetrySpeaks.com. He also has a book entitled, Two Shakespearean Madwomen vs. the Detroit Red Wings, which was published by White Eagle Coffee Store Press (1999), and is a regular contributor for AnnArbor.com. In addition to his work with Neutral Zone, Scott is the Dzanc Writer-in-Residence at Ann Arbor Open School and volunteers as a workshop leader for 826michigan.

Scott has a BA in English Literature and a MFA in Creative Writing (poetry), both from the University of Michigan. He is taking classes at Eastern Michigan University to become a certified teacher.

Scott says his favorite aspect of working at Neutral Zone is, “Seeing the energy and engagement of teenagers doing their own creative work and supporting the creative work of their peers.”
