John Weiss is the executive director of Neutral Zone. He oversees the operations, finances and program initiatives by leading staff, developing and implementing plans, acting as liaison to the board as well as leading the budgeting and financing process.

Prior to the Neutral Zone, John worked as the director of the adolescent division for HighScope Educational Research Foundation. He also worked as a teacher in the Ypsilanti and Willow Run school districts and was a Peace Core volunteer in Gambia, West Africa.

John obtained a bachelor’s degree in cellular molecular biology from the University of Michigan. He also graduated with from the University of Michigan grad school with a duel masters in public policy and urban planning as well as getting his teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University.

John says his favorite aspect of his job is, “The amazing teens and staff at Neutral Zone.” He is inspired by their creativity and leadership and enjoys sharing in their success.
