[pt] Women
October 25, 2009
[pt] women is a session for young women only and will feature guest artist DJ Minx, owner of Detroit based record label and DJ collective W.O.W. (Women on Wax). DJ Minx is an international DJ, Producer and entrepreneur. During the workshop, she will talk about her experiences in the business and teach us some turntable and production skills.

DJing 101
November 1, 2009
This workshop will introduce you to the four types of DJs and the culture that they work within. It will
give you hands on experience and teach you basic record handling, mixing and transitions, and
scratching as well as show you how to set up the gear. With special guest, the Neutral Zone’s own DJ
Ell showing you how to cut using digital control vinyl.


VJing and Visual Performance
November 8, 2009
The third workshop will feature demonstrations by members of the University of Michigan’s Performing
Arts Technology Program. We will investigate an array of free open source software, which can be used
for video and VJ performance. We will also get some hands on experience creating basic visuals with
programs like VPT and Processing.

Electronic Music Performance
November 15, 2009
The fourth workshop will focus on electronic music performance by taking a look at software we can use
to perform live. We will look at the open source software Pd (Pure Data) and have a special
presentation by well-known producer and label owner Colin Zyskowski, who will give us a demonstration
with Ableton Live.

Controllerism and Circuit-Bending
November 22, 2009
We will use knobs, buttons and faders to manipulate sounds and create live music and video. We will
also look at how we can build, and/or mutate instrument and toys we find at thrift stores to our needs by
using arduinos, circuit-bending and other techniques.

Performance and Exhibition
December 6, 2009
This is an opportunity for everyone who has been involved in the Wednesday meetings and Sunday
Intensives as well as a few guests to show off.
